Tasmania Biz Directory

Privacy policy

What Tasmania Biz Directory collects, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated 9 October 2026.

The short version

This site collects almost nothing. It has no user accounts, no tracking scripts, no advertising and no analytics, and it sets no cookies of its own. The only personal information it receives is what you deliberately type into a form, and the only thing it does with that is answer you.

What we collect, and why

If you use the claim or enquiry form on a listing page, we receive the name, phone number, email address, town and message you enter. We use them for one purpose: to reply to you and, where you are claiming a listing, to confirm that you are authorised to act for that business. If you do not want us to have these details, do not submit the form — you can contact a business directly using the details on its listing.

Our hosting provider records standard web server information for every request, including IP addresses, as part of serving the site and protecting it from abuse. We do not use that data to identify individuals and we do not build profiles from it.

What we publish, and where it comes from

This is a directory, so it publishes information about businesses: names, phone numbers, towns, websites and descriptions. That information is compiled from each business’s own public website, and each listing records the page it was taken from. We do not scrape listings from map platforms or buy bulk business lists.

If you own a business listed here and would like an entry corrected or removed, tell us and we will do it. There is no charge for either.

Do we share it?

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. Information you submit may pass through the service providers that run this site — our hosting and email providers — solely to deliver and store your message. We do not disclose it to anyone else unless the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Enquiries are kept only as long as needed to deal with them and to keep a record of the correction. You can ask us to delete your enquiry at any time and we will.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, ask us to delete it, or complain about how we have handled it. Contact us and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with our response you can take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Children

This site is a business directory and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
