About marinas & yacht clubs in Hobart

Hobart sits between the Derwent estuary and kunanyi / Mount Wellington, and the city runs from the heritage streets of Battery Point and North Hobart out through the northern suburbs and Glenorchy to the eastern shore and south toward the Huon. It is the state's largest centre but still a small city by mainland standards, so most services are within a short drive of the CBD. Winter brings frost in the Derwent Valley and snow on the mountain, and the weather changes fast enough that plans made on a Monday are often remade by Friday.

The ranking

Featured listings are marked and appear first. The remaining businesses are ordered editorially by what we could verify from their own material. Order is not a paid ranking, and we do not list businesses we cannot confirm.

Marinas & Yacht Clubs in Hobart — common questions

How do I get a permanent berth in Tasmania?
Most marinas run a waiting list rather than first-come allocation. Ring and ask for the current wait, the licence terms and whether the berth is transferable — a transferable berth can add real value when a boat is sold.
What is the difference between a berth and a mooring?
A berth is a spot against a pontoon, with power, water and a walk-on gangway. A mooring is a buoy in open water: cheaper, but you need a tender to reach the boat and there is usually no power.
Can visiting boats stay for a few nights?
Many clubs keep a visitor berth or two and charge by the night, but they are first come and often full in summer. Radio ahead on VHF before you enter — quieter marinas have no one on the pontoon to take a line.
Where are the slipways and hardstands?
Boatyard capacity is the tightest thing on the Tasmanian coast. Ask how long the wait is for a lift-out, what the hardstand rate is per day, and whether they will let you do your own antifouling — many yards will not.
