What qualifications should a beauty therapist have?

A recognised qualification in the treatments they perform. For anything invasive or skin-penetrating, check whether the practitioner holds specific further training and appropriate insurance, because not every salon does.

Do I need a patch test before tinting or certain treatments?

Yes for tinting and for many chemical treatments, and it normally has to be done at least 24 to 48 hours beforehand. A salon that skips it is skipping the part that protects you from a reaction.

What should I check about hygiene?

Single-use items where applicable, sterilised tools where not, and fresh linen. If you cannot see the tools being taken from a sterile packet or a steriliser, ask.

Is the cheapest option risky?

Not automatically, but price gaps in beauty often track training and consumable quality. Ask what the treatment includes - consultation, product, aftercare - rather than comparing headline numbers.

About beauty salons in Devonport

Devonport is the north-west's port city, where the Spirit of Tasmania berths and freight heads inland to the Coast and up to the highlands. It is the gateway to the north-west and a working port rather than a resort town, with the Mersey River through the middle and the surrounding districts given over to farming and small holdings. Coastal salt air is a fact of life on this stretch of coast.
