What vaccinations does a boarding kennel require?

Usually up-to-date C5 vaccination, and kennels commonly require it to be done at least a couple of weeks before the stay. Ask at booking, and ask what happens if your dog becomes unwell during the stay.

How do I choose a dog trainer?

Ask what methods they use and whether they are force-free. Anyone unable or unwilling to describe their approach in plain terms before you book is telling you something.

What should I look for in a grooming salon?

Clean, dry premises, animals not left in cages unattended for long periods, and a clear answer about what happens if your pet is difficult. Ask to see the area before booking.

Are there licensing requirements for boarding in Tasmania?

Kennels and catteries are subject to council and animal welfare requirements that vary by municipality. Ask the operator what approvals they hold.

About pet services in Hobart

Hobart sits between the Derwent estuary and kunanyi / Mount Wellington, and the city runs from the heritage streets of Battery Point and North Hobart out through the northern suburbs and Glenorchy to the eastern shore and south toward the Huon. It is the state's largest centre but still a small city by mainland standards, so most services are within a short drive of the CBD. Winter brings frost in the Derwent Valley and snow on the mountain, and the weather changes fast enough that plans made on a Monday are often remade by Friday.

The ranking
